I am an expert in the economics of financial services, with an extensive knowledge of financial intermediation processes and related international regulatory standards.

I worked for the Italian financial supervisory authority for 30 years, reaching the highest managerial staff level.

I have a profound experience of applied financial regulation, mainly in the fields of asset management and investment services.

My active participation in very important international committees at the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), at the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and, finally, at EU Joint-Committee Sub-Committee on Consumer Protection and Financial Innovation has completed my professional experience, embracing topics such as crypto-assets, Big Data, Blockchain and Distribute Ledger Technology, Initial Coin Offerings and Initial Securities Offerings, Robo-Advice, online financial platforms, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning decision processes to assess supervisory and regulatory risks.

In recent years, I have devoted efforts to studying financial business transformations driven by new technology, analysing regulatory, competitive, investor protection, privacy and market integrity themes, crossing sectors as diverse as financial services, payment services, ecommerce, internet services platforms, telecommunications and data providers.

Setting up new customised business models in asset management, investment services and the banking sector, based on powerful and flexible infrastructure resources, and on the growing capacity of data governance, poses new and wide compliance problems calling for integrated ad hoc strategies and solutions that Bird & Bird can offer.

My background and professional experience allows me to be part of a team of highly qualified experts, able to provide European and international clients with a holistic advisory approach to financial sector developments shaped by cutting-edge technology.

As technology is at the core of Bird & Bird's specialisation, FinTech is truly a pivotal area for us and I am very glad to give my professional contribution to the firm in my full capacity.

Moreover, I present papers, lectures and key-note speeches in international fora (IOSCO, ESMA, the European Commission), in many Italian academic seminars, in Italian Parliamentary Committee hearings, in leading financial industry association conferences and in other institutional contexts.
