Monika Hughes

I am a Counsel in our Commercial team in Warsaw.

I have been advising clients since 2011 and have extensive experience in consumer protection, e-commerce, new technologies and commercial law. I support both international and local retail brands, which allows me to gain an in-depth understanding of the key challenges and opportunities for businesses operating within the retail sector.

I have represented clients in over 400 disputes involving consumers, including disputes before various regulators – the Polish Competition and Consumer Protection Office, local ombudsmen and the Polish Trade Inspectorate. I advise on the launching of mobile applications, tools, online platforms, and store designs, as well as drafts and reviews numerous e-commerce or consumer-related documents (B2C, B2B, P2B set ups), including loyalty programs and promotional offer terms, as well as user journeys, cancellation and other statutory remedies made available to customers.

My secondary focus is on new technology law, especially negotiating contracts for providing IT, software, AI services and tools.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird, I gained my professional experience while working in several reputable law firms.

I have authored many publications on intellectual property law, new technologies and ecommerce, and lectured during trainings and workshops on this topic.
